What is BAÏNES?

“The place seemed suitable for swimming. The whole family had bathed in the beautiful natural pool dug into the sand of the beach. The huge waves coming from the sea broke further on the sandbar. How lucky to find such a quiet place! 

Unfortunately, a trap had just closed on them. At the rising tide, a strong current carried everyone out to sea. Impossible to swim against the direction! 

That day, fortunately, the rescuers brought them back safe and sound. »

This is not a story from a novel or a movie.

Every year, many bathers are surprised by the currents of baïnes on the Aquitaine coast.

The baïnes are large natural swimming pools. At low tide, they are therefore very popular with our children.

When the tide covers the baïne, the water escapes violently downstream according to a drainage system.
